A Thrilling ride on the Gelmerbahn funicular railway
Gelmerbahn located just off the foot of the high Grimsel Pass road, Canton of Bern, is the Switzerland's most steepest funicular railway in Europe. Switzerland is synonymous with cheese, chocolate and mountains, which cover one-third of the entire country. The Gelmerbahn open carriage goes 450 meters up to the top of a mountain on a 106-percent gradient in places, offering fantastic views of the Lake Gelmer, Grimsel pass and the surrounding valleys with amazing Alpine landscapes. Spectacular Lake Gelmer (or Gelmersee) is situated at an altitude of 1,850 meters above sea level in the midst of glorious mountains, boasting lots of hikes and walks of varying length and difficulty. Funicular takes on board up to 24 passengers, full ride takes 12 minutes and 1,028 m of road (you can imagine or calculate the trolley's speed), starting from the Handegg bottom station in the Hasli Valley, near the bus stop and Hotel Handeck, by the way, it ascends every 30 minutes, daily from 9-16.00, during the warm season from June to October.
